Tanzania has the best of Africa with the largest number of wildlife parks, mountain ranges, unique crater and great lakes.

To experience real Africa visit Tanzania. Its people, its crafts, its wildlife and natural scenery are fascinating. It is one of the safest countries in Africa and its people are friendly. It is also one country where you can find everything that a tourist desires from animal display at its wild best to the treasures of an incredible crater.

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's Largest City

Visit Dar es Salaam off the coast of the Indian Ocean. Drive down this large city to observe its bustling harbor and fishing market, its vibrant locals singing and dancing. Take a ride in its local taxi meandering through its city lanes to observe hawkers selling fresh and dry fruits and speaking ‘swahili’ in a musical voice. Take a ferry to one of the neighboring islands and visit its bazaar to purchase a statue of smooth black ebony.

Zanzibar, the Afro-Arab Archipelago

25 miles off the coast of Tanzania is Zanzibar, the archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Its pulsating ancient Stone town alive with its Afro-Arab culture, its beautiful beaches and spice gardens makes Zanzibar an interesting tourist package. Its Stone town with 2000 odd buildings is a UNESCO world heritage site. Its palaces turned museums that showcase the life of rulers of an opulent past are worth visiting.

Walk through its narrow lanes with tall building facing each other to observe ornate windows and doors and also the lively locals peeping out of their homes. Laze around in its 25 golden beaches observing the boats and streamers passing by. Shop in its bazaars for bold colored fabrics and get hands decorated with ‘henna’ from its women designers.

The Spice gardens of Zanzibar are its beautiful green zones spread out on acres of land bearing trees and plants of exotic spices. Walk down the pathways of these gardens to smell, feel and taste the spices freshly picked from the plants. And don’t forget to buy a few packets of all-mix spices from the garden stalls.

Serengeti National Park

No visit to Tanzania is complete without its wild life viewing. Tanzania has the largest number of wild life parks, with Serengeti topping the list for the largest population of animal species. Spread out on 14, 763 square kilometers and bordering Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve, Serengeti animal world is exciting to explore. Drive down into its wild to observe prides of lion frolicking in the sun, herds of elephants on the march, thousands of zebras and wildebeests migrating to the neighboring Mara reserve and families of gazelle on the run from an approaching predator.

Ngorongoro Crater, Africa’s Eden

Animals can be found in plenty in Ngorongoro Conservation Area too. It is spread out on 8300 square kilometers of land that includes the famous crater, forests and Olduvai Gorge It is an incredible experience driving down into the crater that is often referred to as ‘Africa’s Eden.’ Witnessing a whole new world of animals, vegetation, lakes, peaks and volcanoes one cannot agree less that it is indeed a unique natural wonder.

The animals are in careless abandon here with hippos having their peaceful swim in lakes, hyenas walking lazily on the road and lions yawning after a satisfying feed. Outside the ridge of the crater, local Masaais in their colorful costumes and wielding a long stick, walk leisurely herding their cattle. For tourists they will willingly pose for a photograph but for a price.

Driving down from Ngorongoro one can stop over at Olduvai Gorge to understand the evolution of man from its museum. On the way to Arusha (another city) from here, one can observe the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro looming in the background far away. Tanzania has many mountain peaks, the highest being Kilimanjaro. A country of natural wonders with vibrant African culture, Tanzania is an ideal tourist destination.
